Welcome to Year 2!
The teachers are Miss Khan in Enormous Crocodiles and Miss Ellison-Smith in BFG who are both really excited for the year ahead! Carol and Sonia will be working in the class during the morning supporting lots of groups of children in their learning and with smaller groups in the afternoons from across the year group.
We are also supported by Miss Stevens (our P.E teacher) who will be teaching PE on Monday morning. Miss Griffiths and Mrs Jackson will also be working with both classes throughout the week.
If you ever need to speak to us about anything, big or small, please come find us on the playground or phone the office to make an appointment.
We expect to have a safe, respectful and engaged learning environment, with children developing their learning skills and enjoying their learning. Please see below for our class weekly timetable. The school day starts at 8.45 and finishes at 3.15.
Our writing is inspired by some fantastic texts such as Beegu, Traction Man and Anna Hibiscus. These texts also link to our Enquiry lessons. The children will develop their creative writing skills and grammar over the year. We encourage the children to take pride in their learning and there will be a big focus on handwriting this year. Please continue to practice weekly spellings throughout the year and test your child regularly. Class spelling tests will be on Monday.
We encourage parents to read at home daily. They should read for at least 15 minutes in the evening and it will really help push on children's learning if they were asked questions about what they have just read. Please remember that this does not need to be a level book as we encourage children to develop a love of reading.
Children can change books every Friday and are able to take 3 reading books at one time. We have a new electronic lending system which should make lending easier and enable us to monitor who is and isn't regularly taking books. To support your child even further, the school has a subscription to BugClub; a fantastic reading, spelling and grammar resource that your child can access at home. All children will know their log in details and need the school code: gxg3
Please ensure children bring in their book bags daily.
This year the school has launched an exciting new curriculum. Each term we will have a different challenge and outcome which showcases the children’s learning. Our first enquiry is ‘what makes a good friend?, where we will be demonstrating what we have learnt at a school garden party!
Homework will be set every Thursday and should be handed back in every Monday. They will be set homework that will link to and support learning in class. If children need further help, then homework club runs after school every Thursday.
Here is the link for Bug Club. Please read regularly with your child, this will help their progress in Year 2.
Miss Stevens (our school's sport coach) will deliver PE every Monday morning.
Please ensure children have their kits. Children must come into school wearing their school uniform.
They will need a t-shirt representing their house colour.
