Welcome to Year 3!
Thank you for visiting our class page. We are really excited about the year ahead as there is lots to look forward to! Here you’ll find the key information about Woodpecker and Kingfisher classes.
Miss Goldsack is the teacher in Kingfisher class and Miss Goodwin is the teacher in Woodpecker. Ylva and Mubarik will be working alongside both classes throughout the year. Miss Sokoni and Miss Stevens will also be teaching the classes on a Thursday morning for Term 1.
Year 3 is the first year of key stage two and here children will face exciting learning that challenges them in different ways. Throughout the year children will develop their collaboration skills alongside their resilience so that they can face these challenges with a positive attitude. It is our hope that everyday children will be at school on time and ready to get stuck in to their learning.
Should you ever have any questions or queries you can find us in the playground each morning and afternoon or you can contact the office to arrange a meeting (the number is on the website homepage)
We will cover a wide variety of writing types, both fiction and non-fiction, and each genre will have an exciting book as a stimulus. Both classes will be inspired by carefully picked stories which include Arthur and the Golden rope, Leon and the Place Between, James and the giant Peach, The Darkest Dark, Krindlekrax and Mr Stink. At home you can support children by encouraging them to discuss what they are reading in class, reminding them to use full stops and capital letters every time they write and encouraging them to write for enjoyment.
Our reading lessons are now closely linked to our writing lessons and we will look deeply into each text throughout the year. We will also explore books that completely contrast our focus texts so that the children are exposed to a wide variety of books.
This year our topic learning will be done through enquiries. Each enquiry will be a question that the children gradually answer over a period of time. Each enquiry will finish with a challenge and the children will work towards achieving that challenge throughout their learning. Our enquiries this year will be:
What do families look like?
How can we find out about the past?
Where does darkness come from?
What is under our feet?
How can you feel the force?
Why did people travel in the past?
How do plants die?
How do we help people?
Miss Stevens will be teaching PE to Year 3 on a Thursday morning for Term 1. Children should come to school in their PE kit and bring their school uniform to change into afterwards.
PE is a really important lesson for the children because as well as teaching them how to play different games and sports, it teaches them how to live a healthy lifestyle. Please encourage your child to be active and eat healthily.
If your child has a medical reason why they cannot take part in PE, please send them in with a signed note.
Homework will be given out on a Thursday and should be returned on a Monday. We would really like you to encourage and support your child with their homework because it is important that they practise the skills they are learning in class at home as well.
If you would like to do extra practise with your child, you can visit the following websites. All children should have their log in details, but if you are not sure what it is, please get in touch.
