What's on for families

Activities for families

We are beginning to plan some activities again. This has been very disrupted due to covid and because of the community room building delay.

Over the holidays Bristol Sport ran 13 FREE Sports days for children.  We also ran a family trip to the SS Great Britain and some family play sessions in the first couple of weeks of the holiday.

Across the city there were loads of opportunities for families - many of them free - see the website for details... https://www.yourholidayhubbristol.co.uk/

Unfortunately our family trip to We the Curious (Bristol's fab science centre) was cancelled after a fire damaged their building.  We will rebook the trip as soon as they reopen - if you prefer to claim a refund, please email friends and we will sort this out.

Family swims were very popular this year and we have already booked dates for 2023.  We know the 6pm slot is not great for everybody, but it is the only time you can book the pool for your exclusive use. Friends pay £200 for each swim, so we get grant funding to cover most of cost. And school staff kindly give up their time to help out! These Saturday swims are for Hannah More families only. Under 8s must have a parent in the water with them. Read the guidelines here.

2023 dates are: 13 and 20 May; 10th and 24th June; 8th and 15th July.

Our adult community history project linked to the SS Great Britain has now finished. Parents researched ways to make this wonderful Bristol attraction more accessible for families and more relevant to our community. They also helped to bust some myths - did you know for example that the SS Great Britain was a passenger ship and a cargo boat - but never had any links to the slave trade (it was built a generation after!)? There is a list of other organisations providing support here.  Bristol Charities can occasionally help with household goods - their funding is next available in August.
