After a long break due to Covid restrictions, we are now welcoming back volunteers!
Volunteers help in the classrooms, read with children, support trips and work alongside lunchtime staff. We also welcome volunteers at our after-school club - this is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in a playwork setting. We ask that volunteers are able to commit to a regular slot for at least a term.
All volunteers must be confident English speakers with good basic skills - this is equivalent to a level 1 qualification or above. We occasionally welcome PGCE students from the UK and abroad.
Unless you are known to the school, we ask you to fill in a Volunteer Application form, which can be seen here. If we can offer you a placement you will need a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate. We ask people to contribute £15 to cover the cost of this. Before you start, volunteers also sign an agreement covering confidentiality, health and safety, child protection and communication. You can read this here.
We also welcome reading buddies, who read 1-1 with children. Most of these buddies work for local businesses and volunteer during their lunch hours. Currently this is a Thursday; volunteers read with Year 4 children from 1.30-2.00 and then a few volunteers stay on and read with year 2 children as well. More information, together with some FAQs about reading buddies is here.
