Year 4 Term 3 Week 1

05 January 2021

Hello everyone!

We hope you had a relaxing two weeks at home.

Click here to find your home learning work for Week 1 of Term 3.

Miss Skinner and Miss Goldsack

Each day there will be two zoom meetings.

One will be at 9.00am to explain the learning and the second will be at 2.45pm to review the learning.

As usual, please email your completed work to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Friday 8th January

Please follow our zoom rules just like you would normally follow our classroom rules:

1. Mute yourself until you are asked to speak

2. Turn on your camera at all times

3. Change your name to your own name

4. GIve your teacher or classmates your full attention (don't draw on the screen when they are talking)

9.00am Zoom meeting:

2.45pm Zoom meeting: Make sure you have your work with you!

Maths

Today we will be practising all the times tables we have learnt recently.

Remember to keep practicing on hit the button and times tables rock stars.  At home times tables are an easy thing to practice so we'd like you to spend lots of time on those games!

Here's the Level 1 sheet.

Here's Level 2 and 3 if you get onto them.

English

Here are the next few chapters of Varjak Paw.  From now on, you will be able to follow along with the text as we read!  (Miss Goldsack and Miss Skinner are learning new computer skills too!)

Now have a go at this worksheet.  For each section of text, write a sentence to explain how Varjak is feeling.

Other

Friday will now be your PE day.  Try to get active today using one of Mr Rosetti's videos or by doing some kidzbop or cosmic yoga.

After the lunch, you can enjoy some golden time!  Try to play something at home with a sibling or parent instead of going on your electronics.  Send us a photo of your game and we will add some housepoints for good collaboration!

Maths

Today you're going to do some more work on your 7 times tables.

Work through this sheet.

Have another listen to the song from yesterday to help you learn the numbers in the 7 times table https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XT3vxohtBg&safe=active

Write down the numbers when they are played in the song and keep practicing them to learn them!

You can also play hit the button to practice your 7s.  To challenge yourself try the division facts or try the mix of times tables.

English

Watch this video of Miss Skinner reading the next few chapters of Varjak Paw.

In chapter 5 (the last chapter that Miss Skinner read) Varjak and Elder Paw go out into the garden and Varjak climbs the wall to go to the Outside.

Imagine you are Varjak.  Can you write from his point of view about what happened when he stepped outside.

You can start with this sentence:

As I stepped out of the back door, my whole body felt cold.

Enquiry

Today, follow this link to learn about how sounds are made.

Then complete the online quiz and fill the gap activities underneath.

Wednesday 6th January

9.00am Zoom meeting:

2.45pm Zoom meeting:

Maths

Today you will be beginning to learn your 7 times table.

Here is a fun song to help you learn the numbers in the 7 times table https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XT3vxohtBg&safe=active

Write down the numbers when they are played in the song and keep practicing them to learn them!

You can also play hit the button to practice your 7s.  To challenge yourself try the division facts or try the mix of times tables.

Have a go at completing this maths sheet.

English

First, watch this video of Miss Goldsack reading the first two chapters of Varjak Paw.

Make a list of all the characters that have been introduced.  You may need to listen again very carefully.

Challenge:  Can you draw a picture of Varjak's family as a family tree? Remember the oldest members go at the top and youngest at the bottom.  Brothers and sisters go side by side.

Enquiry

We are going to wait until we are back at school for our performance term, so instead our new topic for this term will be...

What is the difference between noise and sound?

This will be all about how sounds are made and how we hear different noises and sounds.

For today's lesson, we would like you to think about what you know already and what you would like to find out.

Split your page in half.  On one side, write down what you already know about sounds, noises and our ears.  On the other side, write down some questions about what you would like to find out.

Try adding your best ideas and questions to this Jamboard
