Scientific investigation write-up
Yesterday, you were asked to conduct a scientific investigation about the effect of exercise on heartrate.
Today, we would like you write up details of your scientific investigation. Click here to find a template document you can use to record all the information.
We are expecting to see full sentences and around a paragraph of text for most sections. This should be a good meaty report that explains what you thought, what you did and what you found. Don't forget to use your understanding of explanation texts & reports to help!

Reading comprehension
Continuing with our enquiry theme of exercise, today we would like you read the following text on exercise and running specifically.
Once you have read this text, answer the following questions in your book or on a sheet of paper.
In today's lesson, you are going to conduct a practical experiment!
You can check your heartrate (how fast your heart pumps blood around your body) by counting your pulse either on your wrist on your neck. Put your fingers on your wrist or neck and count how many beats there are in one minute (you might need a timer on a phone or tablet).
Count your heartrate after doing the following things and then write it down in bpm (beats per minute) - eg. 'When I was sitting down, my heartrate was 63bpm.'
- Sitting down for one minute
- Standing up for one minute
- Doing some gymnastic stretches for one minute
- Walk around for one minute
- Running on the spot for one minute
- Jumping around for one minute
Now, take a rest for twenty minutes and repeat this activity.
Save your results as you will need them tomorrow!
